Oh, the places you’ll go!

Breckenridge, Colorado Edition

Founder & Lead Creator, Oscar Mikols, recently traveled to Colorado for a ski trip and captured some stunning photos that invite you to the snow-capped mountain ranges, cozy log-cabins, and glimpse at the town life feel in the winter wonderland.

Rustic, charming, & quaint. Colorado's early settlers contributed to the rustic style architecture we know today. Dating back to 1858 through the 1930s, pioneers built log structures that were designed to blend in with the natural environment.

Seen today, there are various styles including Mountain Modern, Alpine Elegant, Log Home, Rustic Cabins & A-Frames. All have a commonality in highlighting that the town’s architecture mirrors its natural surroundings.

With Mountain Modern, this style “borrow[s] from some of the 1970s angles, yet with big windows, clean lines, simple geometry, that combined in artistic ways, creates a fresh new look in this alpine environment.” Minimalism is a main feature of this home, mixed with metallic materials to make it feel more industrial.

Bringing the outdoors to the indoors, Alpine Elegant style homes try to blend the elements together to create an elegant ambiance. Although this style incorporates the outdoors, most of these homes can be found with contrasting decor, which creates an interesting juxtaposition within the interior of the home.

The basics still remain in the Colorado mountains, including log homes, rustic cabins & A-frames. We can trace these distinguishing architectural features back to the frontier days, which have contributed to the well-known, traditional, “western” design we think of today.

While exploring during Oscar’s trip, it is evident that the quintessential architectural history is used to landscape downtown, from residential real estate to store fronts, including: Starbucks, Lulus, North Face, and more.

With minor light pollution and the vast mountain ranges, don’t forget about the twilight & aerial shots that make this town a must see!

Thanks for joining us on Oscar’s trip - stay tuned for our next Oh, the places you’ll go adventure!
